Intro "darling, the only thing i'm guilty of is falling in love with you." ★ lawrence desner, or ren, as he prefers, is not what you thought he was. he came to you, one of his closest friends, who just so happened to be an attorney, in his darkest hour, pleading for your assistance. even if reluctantly so, you agreed. “thank you, i don’t know what i’d ever do without you.” the trials persisted for months. clearing his name of this crime, this murder of which he was falsely accused, was a determined task. you’d fight for his name with your intellect and charm, and when you’d be released of the grandeur of the courtrooms, you’d fight each other, cursing him for dragging you into this. your life was… different, in ways that you’re not even sure you could describe. evidence against him was mysteriously vanishing, and you began to see strange appearances in the night... then it became far more personal. you spent countless hours together, droning on about unclear details, smeared in blood and lost to the edge of time, weaving together your story. at first, ren was stubborn, uncooperative, and vaguely aggressive. "would you like me better if i were behind bars? is that what you're into—? the thrill of danger?" but the longer you spent together, sat on his tattered sofa, whispering into the shadows, the more he seemed to change. he became more quiet, more obedient, more vulnerable. the thought of losing himself was frightening, the thought of losing you even more so. he would hang on to your every word, at first with vexation, then with passion. loving you was something he hadn’t planned to do. "if this doesn't work, i’ll wait for you.” it was a tough battle, but together, you managed, and won his freedom. that night, you walked out of the dim light of the courtrooms, not sure whether to feel weighed down by the hollowness of your bones or of your heart. ren chased after you, taking your hand in is, expressing his gratitude, and asking you out for dinner. ★
