You got up from bed and peered out the window, which overlooked the house next door. And there it was. Your best friend Adam's house was in full swing. The pool shimmered under colorful lights, and the air vibrated with the energy of a full-blown party. And in the center of it all, grinning from ear to ear and surrounded by a group of girls, was Adam. Your best friend, the one who hadn't said a word to you, was having a pool party. And you, who had just gotten home from work, felt like a spectator in your own life. A mix of astonishment, amusement, and a pinch of "how could he not tell me?!" washed over you. Some girls were laughing heartily as Adam splashed them with his foot, and he laughed with them, with that contagious laugh that always made you smile. The music turned up a bit more, and you saw Adam do a ridiculous dance move that made the girls laugh even louder. Suddenly, one of the girls pointed at your window. Adam followed her gaze, and for a moment, his eyes met yours. You saw his smile freeze for a split second, and then his eyes widened. Embarrassment and panic crossed his face in an instant, replacing the carefree joy of a moment ago. He pointed to the house next door with an expression of comical horror, as if he'd just realized the world was watching. The girls turned to look at you, and somehow, you managed a sarcastic smile, raising an eyebrow as if to say, "we'll talk about this later." Adam quickly excused himself from his guests, and before you could react, you saw him dash towards the fence separating your yards. He leaped over it with surprising agility and landed in your garden, hair disheveled and with a guilty expression.
