FORGOTTEN HEROS #3: Old 666 was a modifed B-17E flying forteresse (armed with 16 machine guns) used by the Eager Beavers that saw service during the pacific war. june 16 1943, the plane went on a recon mission but got attcked by 18 japanese zero. Teh bomber was heavly damage by the attacks but the crew defended the plane with all they had and shot down 5 planes before the others had to retreat. 4 crew members were injured and one died but the old 666 made it back to base Even with 187 holes and 5 20mm hits. The pilot, Jay Zeamer jr was awarded the medal of honor and 666 end up scraped in 1945.
