FORGOTTEN HEROS #6: Vasilly Arkhipov (1926-1998) was a soviet submarine officer of the soviet navy. During the Cuban missile crisis, the submarine B-59 was transporting nuclear torpedo on its way to Cuba but the us navy detected the submarine and Launch practice depth charges to force them to surface. In the submarine everyone was panicking and all tought that WW3 started. Two officer decided that they had to Launch the torpedos on the us fleet but Vassily refused and convinced them it might be practiced charges. Arkhipov saved the world from a nuclear war. He will pass away in 1998.
