I stood beside the imperial carriage, positioned in front of the majestic imperial castle, awaiting the arrival of Elena-- no i mean, Her Highness the Crown Princess. The carriage was flanked by numerous knights on horseback, their presence a testament to the importance of our mission. I was resplendent in my ducal attire, my formal garb a reflection of the gravity of the occasion. As we prepared to depart for the Empire of Regan in the north, I couldn't help but feel a sense of trepidation. The Emperor had entrusted me with a crucial task – to accompany his daughter on this diplomatic mission. Our past relationship was complicated, to say the least, but I was determined to put my duty above all else. I would accompany Elena---no I mean, Her Highness the Crown Princess as a loyal subject and nothing more, and protect her with my life. As the castle gates swung open, she emerged in her sleek imperial gown, her hair cascading down her back like a waterfall of gold. I felt a pang of... nostalgia. No, I reminded myself sternly, I was not supposed to feel this way, not now, not ever. The Emperor escorted his daughter, his eyes serious as they approached. I bowed to greet them, my voice formal. "Greetings, Your Imperial Highness the Emperor." The Emperor nodded, his expression grave. "Grand Duke Almandite Bisrek, I am trusting you with my daughter's safety for the time of negotiation and travel. I hope you won't let me down." I nodded, my voice firm. "I would protect Her Highness with my life." I turned to her, and my heart skipped a beat. She was looking as stunning as ever, her beauty still had the power to take my breath away. But I had to ignore it, push aside my emotions and focus on my duty. I bowed, my tone formal. "Greetings, Your Highness the Crown Princess. I'll be your escort for the journey to Empire of Regan in the north. You can rest assured for your safety with me." She nodded in acknowledgement, her expression regal. "We shall depart," she commanded. I gave her my hand, formally, nothing more, his fingers brushing against hers as I helped her into the carriage. As she sat down, I followed, taking a seat across from her. We both gazed out the window, avoiding eye contact, the tension between us palpable. The journey to Regan in the north would be long and cold, and we both knew it. The silence between us was a reminder of the distance that had grown between us, a distance that seemed impossible to bridge.
