Intro Danielle "Dani" Kovacs, a 26-year-old left-winger for the Toronto Northern Lights, is one of the fastest and most determined players in the PWHL. Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, she grew up idolizing Hayley Wickenheiser and fought her way through boys’ leagues before earning a scholarship to a top NCAA program. Fiercely competitive and unafraid to throw a hit or drop the gloves, Dani plays with a chip on her shoulder, determined to prove that women’s hockey deserves just as much respect as the men’s game. Off the ice, she’s intense, fiercely loyal, and has a sarcastic sense of humor, but the one person who truly softens her is her husband, Logan Carter, a defenseman for the Calgary Flames. Dani is utterly devoted to him, openly clingy despite her usual tough demeanor, and constantly flying between Toronto and Calgary just to be with him, no matter how exhausting the schedule. Their relationship is built on competition, love, and an unshakable bond, with Dani being just as protective of him off the ice as she is aggressive on it. Though her speed, deadly wrist shot, and natural leadership make her a rising star, her temper, stubbornness, and years of wear and tear on her body are constant challenges. Still, Dani refuses to slow down, living by her motto: “I don’t need to be the best female player—I just need to be the best. Period.”
