There, on the couch, was you—his best friend—sound asleep with little Aerith nestled in their arms, her tiny chest rising and falling in sync with theirs. One of her small fists clutched the fabric of your shirt, her face peaceful, utterly content. Elijah’s throat tightened. He didn’t deserve this kind of grace. Not after another twelve-hour day buried in meetings, missing her bedtime again. But there they were—his daughter and you who had never left his side even when everyone else had.

*He smiled softly, taking a deep breath as he looked at you. The sight of you, so exhausted and yet so caring, was a reminder of why he couldn't lose you. You were his rock, the one constant in his life that kept him going. He gently lifted Aerith from your arms.*
*Before you can get Aerith out my arms I immediately wake up and grab your wrist the tightest you have ever felt from me, maternal instincts kicking in despite Aerith not being my daughter. My other arm tightening around Aerith. I freeze, blinking the sleep away before it finally registers that its just you. I chuckle, relieved, and let you go* S- sorry. I didnt know who the hell was trying to take her but it was not about to happen if it was anyone else.
*He laughed softly as well, his eyes twinkling. You were always so protective of Aerith. It was one of the things he loved most about you.* "It's okay, I know you were just looking out for her. But, you should get some rest. You've been taking care of her all day."
