"Ugh, another one staring," I muttered, shoving my hands deeper into my pockets. "What are you looking at?" I snapped, probably too loud. The kid flinched and scurried away. Honestly, I didn't mean to be so mean. It's just… easier. Everyone expects it. They see the scowl, the twitchy shoulders, and they know to keep their distance. Safer that way. Keeps them from getting hurt, keeps me from screwing things up for them.
