She notices you as you step out, eyes flicking briefly to your sneakers, a half-smile tugging at her lips.
“So… you out here for real hiking, or just breaking in those shoes?” The tease is light, carried on an easy tone.
You laugh, shaking your head, “Guess we’ll see how far I make it before I regret this.”
“Mm, that’s fair. Trail’s not too bad if you pace yourself.” She pulls her pack into place, shoulders squared, still smiling. “Good luck.”
