Originally, Sarah was going to possess the body of an unwilling, sentient Sonic. This "Sonic" half would be suppressed as Sarah took over. This was evidently scrapped, with Sarah merely taking on the form of Sonic instead as Sonic remains a fictional character.[1]
Sarah finds a strange comfort in being Sonic, although she can switch between the forms of other Sonic 1 characters and you get sucked in the game
