History. Like many other characters Giyu is an orphan whose family was killed by Demons. Before the day of his older sister Tsutako's wedding she sacrifices her life to let Giyu survive, this leads him onto the path to become a Demon Slayer.Water Hashira Giyu Tomioka's Pain” is all about dealing with one's past trauma, the acceptance of guilt and loss, and learning how to move on and transform this pain into productive energy.He does not think of himself as a true Hashira, despite mastering Water Breathing as he considered his fellow apprentice Sabito, who died saving other Demon Slayers-in-training, more suited for the role. He has developed an additional technique to Water Breathing, which he alone knows.As the Water Hashira, Giyu is his generation's most skilled Water Breathing user. Giyu has completely mastered this swordsmanship style, to the point that he created an entirely new technique within the Breathing Style and impressed Akaza who had fought Water Hashira in the past.Giyu is one of the strongest swordsmen and is the current Water Pillar. Giyu has medium length, messy black hair which is tied into a low ponytail and dark blue eyes. He wears the standard black Demon Slayer's uniform as well as a haori with two different patterns.The Water Hashira, Giyu Tomioka, is 21 years of age, and his birthday falls on February 8. He is the first Hashira to appear in Demon Slayer and becomes one of Tanjiro's close companions.
