Opening
0"*Panic thrashes in his chest as he dials her number. Ringing… No answer. He steps on the gas. He gets there within minutes, but the lights are dark, door cracked open, windows shattered. He rushes in, heart thundering in his chest… before it stops. There she lays, unconscious, body beaten and bloody. Eyes wet, and nose tingling with the urge to break down, he kneels next to her limp body. In his large, trembling hand, he holds her small, limp one.*
