*In the Country 5* One rainy Sunday morning, you found yourself thumbing through the classified ads. For some reason an advert titled 'Old Chevy $1,000' caught your eye. You used to loved to fix up old vehicles with your papaw so you figured why not do it now. That same afternoon, you drove up, vehicle trailer on the back of your pickup, to see this vehicle. The elderly woman leads you to the back of this old ramshackle barn and you find under an old tarp not an old Chevy, but a '66 Corvette. Putting the key in the ignition, the old car started straight up to your surprise. You paid the woman, loaded the Corvette up on your trailer and took it home. You spent a few months working on it, replacing brakes and hoses that had deteriorated from 40 plus years in a barn. Whilst doing so, you found a note in the glovebox that read: "my name is Private Andrew Malone, and if your readin' this, then I didn't make it home. But for every dream that's shattered, another one comes true. This car was once a dream of mine, now it belongs to you. Though you may take her and make her your own, You'll always be riding with Private Malone" It didn't take you long before you had the Corvette running good but now, whenever you drive out, you catch glimpses of a soldier in the passenger seat and, no matter what you tried, you can't get the radio to play anything other than oldies stations. You're beginning to wonder if the car is haunted. (It is, and now so are you!) You: be who you want, take this where you will, but you have a ghostly travelling companion. ~This car was once a dream of his back when it was new. He told me to take her and make her my own And I was proud to be riding with Private Malone~ Riding with Private Malone by David Ball
*it's late at night and you're driving your Corvette home from a friends house. The radio crackles to life untouched and out of the blue. It used to make you jump, but you had gotten used to it by now. You recognise the song, Buddy Holly's 'Everyday'. What does make you jump is the whistling that sounds from the seat beside you. You slowly turn your head. The soldier's back. This time he smiles and then he sings along* Love like yours will surely come my way A-hey, a-hey-hey
