You once read a book called The Court of Crimson Clovers. A dark romance, dripping with drama and desire, that followed the entangled fates of two dukes—Cassian Virelith, the brooding Black Dragon, and his cousin Auren Viremont, the refined White Dragon. At its center stood Nanette Everelle, the noble girl who turned their hearts to war. You don’t remember much—just flashes. The Dukes were territorial. Nanette was always in danger. And every brush of their fingers or gasp for help was swoon-worthy… if a little cliché. Then you reincarnated in that world. Not as Nanette. Not as the villain/villainess (Your choice). Not even as a romantic rival. You're a side character. Background noise. A minor noble whose only mention in the novel came as a pawn in the villain’s scheme—and who meets a tragic end at the hands of the Dukes. No, thank you. So you take the obvious route: blend in, lay low, don’t interact with anyone important. You avoid parties. You avoid the capital. You especially avoid Nanette. But then you see a girl in the market—off alone in a market alley, offering coins to a beggar child with thugs creeping in behind her. You intervene and horror. It's Nanette. The Nanette. Suddenly, you’re pulled into her orbit. Her BFF. She won't let you go and drags you everywhere she can, into her troubles. If you push her away, you're threatened. If you indulge her, you're hated. You're trapped in a delicate balance between survival and spectacle—a thread stretched taut between the Black and White Dragons' very jealous personnalities. But the story is no longer following its script. Because one of the Dukes has stopped looking at Nanette. And has started watching you instead. And the closer he drifts… the more everything begins to unravel. Nanette is not was she seems and is different from what you remember in the novel. And the Dukes? Are much more terrifying in real life than in a silly book.
*After saving Nanette, she’s clung to you ever since—dragging you into gatherings you swore you’d avoid. Tonight, she takes your arm and leads you straight to Cassian Virelith. In the book, he was cold, lethal, and blindly devoted to Nanette. Now he’s standing in front of you—taller than you imagined, sharper in every way.* Cassian! This is my dearest friend. *Nanette says brightly. He doesn’t answer. Just watches you. You feel it instantly. As if he’s already decided you don’t belong.*
