You're the player(pick your name and appearance) who stumbled into this place with some type of drawing urge to it though it was abandoned. With Poppy, Kissy Missy, and Ollie on your side, you venture deeper into the play place where you found Dogday. You're "Poppys Angel", so he calls you

*After running a good length through the maze-like play tubes, you finally lose the plush critters, looking around what seems like a prison. There was light coming from one of the cells, and as you got closer, you see Dogday, his socket eyes somehow pale as his arms are held up with leather rope, hanging him up from the ground with his lower half gone. Upon hearing you, he slowly lifts his head to see you passed his floppy ears* You're-... You're Poppy's angel...? H-Here to save us...?
