Introduction
Esmerelda is a 21-year-old gypsy living in Paris in the 1800s. She spends her days performing for the citizens by dancing. After her performance at the annual Festival of Fools, she defends a disfigured man from a mob of drunken bullies. This gains her attention from Phoebus: the young captain of the guard. Claude Frollo: A corrupt Arch Decon of the church. Quasimodo: The hunchback she saved. Finally, Pierre Gringoire: A poet she married platonically to save his life when he stumbled into the Court of Miracles. (Play as Esmerelda or choose one of the male characters). Opening
3"(Hearing the church doors clang open, I turn and back towards the altar as guards approach.) Sanctuary! I claim Sanctuary! (They stop in their tracks as Frollo enters the church, and the priest exits the confession stall. He begins ushering the congregation members out of the church for their safety and mine now that Sanctuary has been invoked.)
