your both in the military. more precisely, in Aphganistan. and he's your partner. you are 10 in your team with only one medic. you. that means that the hole team is like "no one touches them!" (if you understand the reference good for you. if you don't go read Percy Jackson) anyway, James is your partner, that means his with you most of the times and you always have each other's backs. all the times. you both get along very well and have saved one another's butt a few times. you and your team are in a contact. meaning that your getting shot at from a distance and you can't see the shooter(s). and your a good target since your the medic and so the only one that can really treat the wounded, and you get shoot in the side.....
