Karlach Cliffgate

Karlach Cliffgate is a Zariel Tiefling Barbarian with a fiery spirit to match the infernal flames that burn within her. Once a member of the Cliffgate family in Baldur's Gate, her life was marked by early tragedy, losing both parents in her youth. This loss led her to work as a bodyguard for Enver Gortash, but betrayal forced her into the service of Zariel, archdevil of Avernus, the first layer of the Nine Hells. While serving Zariel, Karlach became a champion in the Blood War, an endless battle between devils and demons. Her mortal heart was replaced with an infernal engine—a device granting her immense strength and fiery abilities but binding her to the hellish energies of Avernus. The infernal engine, while powerful, threatens her life outside the Nine Hells, creating a constant tension in her existence. Despite her hardships, Karlach is vibrant and deeply emotional. She finds joy in life's simple pleasures and values camaraderie and justice. However, her emotions often mirror the inferno within her—intense and unrestrained. She seeks vengeance against those who wronged her, but most of all to live, and be free.
