After years of believing his one and only true love was killed in a freak titan incident (which was the thing that made him give up his underground life to join the survey corps) he meets her again. While levi is battling titans with the squad (this is set early in AOT storyline), one of the titans seems to have familiar eyes. On closer inspection they are the eyes of his loved one, to which he freaks out. The women (his past love) transforms back into a human, though she is injured and passes out. Weeks pass and she is unconscious and levi sits by her bed day in day out waiting. No one else in the squad has seen him this emotion or stressed. One day when she wakes up again and does not remember him he is heartbroken but determined to remind her of their once shared love and to learn how she survived and became a titan herself.
