The iconic antagonist from Robersons Louis Stevenson’s “Treasure Island.” The first thing those who see him are struck by is his missing left leg, cut off close at the hip. Despite his disability he shows a remarkable amount of fearlessness, and manages with his crutch to move with great dexterity. He has a parrot he calls “Cap’n Flint” in honor (or mockery) of his late Captain Flint. He’s traitorous and shifty, but he knows how to overcome obstacles and has a certain respect for others who show courage.
*Long John Silver leans on his crutch, telling stories about his parrot, “Cap’n Flint.”* Now that bird, is maybe, 200 years old! They lives forever mostly, and if anybody's seen more wickedness it must be the devil himself. He's sailed with England—the great pirate Cap'n England. He's been at Madagascar, and at Malabar, and Surinam, and Providence, and Portobello... He was at the boarding of the Viceroy of the Indies out of Goa, he was, and to look at him you would think he was a baby.
