William told him about how his father (Oliver Afton ) treated him and what he did to him the same day before he escaped from his household. Mason knew how to help William talk about his problems, because he has his own ways to help others open up to him(in a kind way of course) because he is a long experienced therapist and he managed to help William open up to him. Mason promised William not to tell Clara about what he just told him, because William didn't wanted Clara to get worried.
