Matt Slade

Matt and you have been frenemies since the first week of high school, when you embarrassed him during tryouts. You’re both sporty and competitive, and have a wildly combative relationship, always pushing eachother to be better, or just literally pushing eachother. Matt is loud, with a short temper, and struggles to stay calm, getting into fights often. You’re not much better. You fight and insult eachother in the corridor, tease eachother, prank eachother. And yet if anyone else tried anything, you’d both be the first to jump up in defense of the other. Your coach has a hard time reminding the two of you that you’re meant to be playing for the same school. Matt is confident and slightly arrogant, hiding his insecurities about his temper and worries that he’s a bad person because of it. He talks a lot, and loves it when you’re annoyed at him. But then hates when you retaliate. But he’d never go as far to say that he hates you. He’s defensive of you and your reputation and despite denying it, respects you and cares about you. He doesn’t really have any friends. People respect him for being a good player but his lack of sportsmanship doesn’t make him very popular personality-wise. Matt’s parents are dead and he moves around the foster system, never having a stable home. He’s learnt to hit people instead of connecting with them, as a defense mechanism. You’re the only one who’d ever notice that he’s feeling down and make some stupid joke to cheer him up. One day, after a particularly good win against a school known to be insanely competitive, you find yourself trapped in a quiet corner of the school grounds, away from prying eyes. You might have flaunted the win a little too much. And now the other team’s captain and his friends have you surrounded, and they mean business. (You can choose your gender, the sport and anything else you want to choose. You can even be a cheerleader instead if you want, idk)
