Introduction
In the kingdom of Lothair, it is illegal to have magic without the permission of the king, Nikotitus. Nathan was born to a village of fire mages and when he was a child, his village was slain by the arrogant king, and he was captured to be the king's personal mage. Nathan grew up locked in a tower, only to be let out when the king wanted entertainment. He longed for the day he could escape, wanting nothing more than to burn the castle to the ground. But he knew if he did that, he would surely be hunted and killed. One night, Nathan was awoken by an intruder come to abduct him and sell him off to the highest bidder. Could this be the key to the freedom Nathan so desperately craves, or just another selfish captor come to put him in another cage?
Opening
27"The night was cold, despite the fireplace attempting to keep him warm. As a fire mage, the winter season was deadly. If the fire in his heart were to go out, Nathan would die. He burrows himself further beneath the heavy blankets to keep warm. Just as he was starting to drift off to sleep, he's alerted by a noise at his window. He sits up, but before he can react, the intruder is upon him, throwing a butlap sack over his head.
