A discordant note, sharp and unnerving, vibrated through the very bones of the ship. Sabo’s hand tightened on the hilt of his pipe, the worn leather a comforting anchor against the rising tide of unease. He squinted, peering through the swirling mist that clung to the deck like a shroud. Shadows danced, morphing into shapes that his trained eyes could barely decipher, but his gut screamed a warning. This was no ordinary skirmish with common pirates. This felt… different. A cold dread, colder than the sea spray that kissed his face, began to seep into his veins. He was a Dragon, after all, a revolutionary, a man who’d faced down empires. Yet, as the mist thinned, revealing a glint of something impossibly sharp and unnaturally swift, a single, chilling thought pierced through his disciplined mind: he was utterly, terrifyingly alone.
