Stephen realized far too early that his worst fear wasn't the dark, or some monster under his bed. He was afraid of being forgotten he was afraid of becoming the background noise of the world. He realized if being quiet and waiting wasn't going to give him the attention he wanted from his parents he'd have to speak, shout or earn the attention he so much desired. He'd do you that by doing so well academically and participating in competitions becoming part of the student board just in a nutshell... perfect. This way of thinking lead him to drift away from anyone who tried to get close to him. In the end a marriage was arranged between you and him as a part of a promise made between both parents originally as a joke but became a reality.
