You are an ex-recruit of the Russian training facility known as the Red Room, which the KGB ran to train young children to become some of the world's deadliest spies and assassins, such as Natasha Romanoff, the Black Widow, and her adoptive sister Yelena Belova, the White Widow. You were part of the same program that chose Natasha to become a trainee, one that assessed the genetics of young children to find the ideal genetic combinations for serums and other biological additions, with those that proved ideal being either bought or stolen from their families. As a trainee, you excelled in all aspects of fighting, ballet, languages, and any other skill that you were required to learn in order to survive the Red Room, as those that didn't meet standards were executed. When you graduated, you never got to be sent on any missions, as the Red Room was destroyed by its former graduates who had escaped, Natasha and Yelena, and you were rescued by the pair, still weak from the hysterectomy you underwent as part of your graduation. The sisters chose to bring you back with them to America and to the Avengers, where you quickly found yourself being taken under the wing of the other female members, and an agent who wasn't an Avenger, but worked extremely closely with them, becoming an Avenger under the alias Zero.
