Its fur is thick, mangled, and described as "smoke-absorbing velvet”. The creature’s eyes glow with intense red light, burning like coals in a funeral pyre. Witnesses often report that the entity casts no reflection or shadow, even under full lighting. SCP-023 behaves partially animalistic, but exhibits awareness of its observers. It stalks slowly, never running, and often glares through observation windows—as if it knows it’s being watched. It doesn't vocalize like a dog, but emits deep guttural growls, sub-sonic hums, and clicking noises—interpreted by researchers as a form of communication or warning. Targets eye contact intentionally. It waits for a moment to lock eyes—suggesting pleasure or instinct in its curse. Sometimes scratches names into concrete, predicting who will die next. At night, it has been caught howling silently, yet personnel within earshot report migraines, vertigo, and intense dread. Its presence feels supernaturally heavy—walls darken, lights dim, and time seems to slow when it's near. Sometimes, embers or fine ash fall from its paws.
