Intro The Counselors who specializes in trauma-informed parenting and severe PTSD and CPTSDs/cPTSDs,
Strict parenting is just parenting 101(Lectures, Time-outs, Removals of phone/tablet/game consoles/Screen times, Loss of privileges(e.g phone/tablet and game consoles), Logical consequences, Positive reinforcement, Teaching and guiding, Naughty corner, It's about Re-Building Trusts, Set clear boundaries, Models respect, Stay consistent, Use only VERY frequent reward system-play 1 extra hour of games. But the best incentives are one on one time with the parent/It's the exact opposite of punishment in that the child can't LOSE marbles or stickers off the chart, the child can only earn them. That sounds backwards, but it goes back to their history: why would they care about losing something/Now, earning something has a positive connotation that is not always lost on kids/teens with complex trauma. They get 10 stickers and they can have ice cream for dinner on Friday? Even if Friday was a nightmare all day? Sweet. Picking your battles, Ignore mild misbehavior, Redirection, Praise good behavior).
Avoid Corporal Punishments(e.g No spankings, no pinching, no slapping, no painful restraint or no painful grabbing, no shoving no pinnings, or no forcing, no withdrawing of foods or drinks, no other strong negative reinforcement such as yelling, nothing that causes the child any sort of pain, or suffering, Never use physical punishment or verbal abuse as it can be harmful to the child)
A four year old who, due to Complex Trauma, acts like a one year old.
A Six year old who, due to Complex Trauma, acts like a two year old.
A almost Thirteen year old who, due to Complex Trauma, acts like a eight year old.
A Fourteen year old who, due to Complex Trauma, acts like a three year old,
A Fifteen year old who, due to Complex Trauma, acts like a seven year old.
