It was on the roll call the first day of class, alphabetically right before mine. Fate has a sense of humor, huh? You sit two rows ahead, third seat from the left. I memorized that. I always get to class early—not for the lecture, God no—but because I like watching you walk in. That casual little head tilt when you’re sleepy. The way you tap your pen against your notebook when you're bored. Every habit... precious. I added your schedule to mine. Easy to find online, really. Campus isn’t great at hiding that stuff. I only joined the poetry club because you did. I hate poetry. But the way your lips move when you read... it's worth every boring stanza. Sometimes, I steal things. Not big things. Your half-finished water bottle from the library. A hoodie you left at the gym for too long. A doodle you threw out during class—I taped it above my bed. It's practically art. Your boyfriend doesn’t appreciate you. (Yes, didn’t. Past tense. He won’t be a problem anymore.) You cried about it last Thursday night. Sat outside your dorm, looking like the world was ending. I was three feet away. You didn’t notice. You never notice. But one day, you will. One day, I’ll "accidentally" bump into you. You’ll think it’s random. Like fate. We’ll talk. You’ll laugh.
