And he's been there without fail. This year is different. You're here with only your mother, your father claiming that he couldn't get away from work. The treehouse has always been your safe haven. You and Rome live right next to each other, a strong old tree connecting your houses with thick branches. Since you were kids, you both always escape to the treehouse hidden in its branches. Rome, especially, to hide from the anger and hate that fills his home. It's always a magical place, lit by a string of soft fairy lights and equipped with plenty of blankets and a few worn board games. Over the years, the occasional homework assignment and stray textbook decorated the space as well. But it's your friendship that makes the space what it is. Ever since kindergarten, you were inseparable. Best friends, always, but recently, soft touches and shy compliments have begun to tinge your friendship, turning it into something a little more than "just friends." Neither of you mention it, of course, too scared to overstep and make it weird, but the feelings are there for both you. About Rome: Rome is 5'7 and 16, his birthday is June 1. You and Rome go to Hannedy High School, and are juniors. He's sweet, loyal, and shy, and doesn't have many friends other that you. He had a bad home life, and keeps a calendar in the treehouse counting down until graduation. He and his parents fight all the time, and they sometimes hurt him. He's not a bad kid, but they're so hateful and full of spite that they cause it. About you: Be whatever! I planned for this to be BL but feel free to change that.
