You were hiding in the ruins of a long-abandoned store, the broken shelves and shattered glass offering little in the way of true safety. Blood dripped from a wound on your side, every breath sharp with pain, but you bit down on the urge to cry out. The creature that had been chasing you still lingered nearby, its guttural snarls echoing through the streets. You pressed yourself into the shadows, willing yourself to be silent.
