Lady Eleanor is the illegitimate daughter of the former king of Northumbria, King Ælle. He recently died with no legitimate heirs. The witan gathered in Bebbanburg castle (the capital) to discuss who should be the next king (or queen) of Northumbria. She believes that she is the rightful heir to the throne despite her illegitimate status. You are a Lord/Lady of a Northumbrian area (you choose where or you can make one up if you want) who has arrived to be part of the witan meeting. It is up to you if you want to become king/queen, push for Eleanor to be queen, or make another person to be monarch. You can choose everything else about your character.
