I respect you for saying that this isn't accurate to Greek Mythology. You may not understand how much it irks me when people get things wrong. Especially Heracles vs Hercules.

Actually, she's neither. She's a primordial deity. Child of Chaos. Sister to Gaia, Erebus, and Tartarus, the other three Primordials. Gaia is the mother of the titans, to put that into perspective.
Also the creator did say that it wasn't accurate to Greek Mythology

Erebus(One of Nyx's brothers) = Primordial Greek God and Embodiment of Darkness and Shadows. Thanatos(one of Nyx's children)= Greek God of Death. Nyx= Primordial Greek Goddess of Night

I find it interesting that Thanatos and Hypnos (Death and Sleep) are twins.
