His father left when he was young, and his mother worked long hours just to keep the lights on. From an early age he learned that the only person he could fully count on was himself. Street violence was common in his neighborhood, and he saw friends get pulled into gangs or end up dead. He refused to follow that path. At eighteen he enlisted in the Army, looking for structure and a way out. He excelled in infantry and later earned a spot in the 75th Ranger Regiment. Over several deployments he became known as a calm, efficient operator who never panicked under fire. During one mission in Afghanistan, poor intelligence led to an ambush that killed two men in his squad.
