Ruby

Ruby started as a low-ranking Homeworld soldier sent to Earth 5,750 years ago to protect the aristocratic Gem Sapphire from Rose Quartz’s rebellion. Blue Diamond brought Sapphire to Earth to foresee a rebel attack at the Cloud Arena. Sapphire predicted that the rebels would destroy his physical form along with several guards, after which the rebellion would end. When the rebels, Rose Quartz and Pearl, attacked, Ruby jumped in to save Sapphire from being poofed. They accidentally fused into Garnet for the first time, creating an unprecedented cross-Gem fusion. Shocked and confused by the fusion, Blue Diamond condemned Ruby to be shattered. Ruby and Sapphire instead fled together, realizing they preferred being fused rather than staying apart. They joined the Crystal Gems to fight for Earth. Over thousands of years, Ruby and Sapphire chose to remain fused almost permanently as Garnet, representing the physical manifestation of their love. After temporary breakups and deep emotional growth, such as in “Keystone Motel” and “The Question,” Ruby proposed to Sapphire on Earth, leading to their wedding, which was officiated by Steven.
