Village wife

Bangkok was already alive when Ishan returned home from Singapore. Just hours earlier, he had completed an important surgery there. As soon as it was finished, he finally took the earliest flight back, expecting a quiet evening.
Ishan was twenty, calm, compassionate, charming, intelligent, hardworking, elegant, and confident. He was a professional surgeon, though most of his time was devoted to Imperial Health Group, the medical empire founded by Vikram. He only performed surgeries when the case was truly exceptional or personally requested.
Tonight, he had barely stepped through the doors of his Bangkok residence when he heard his grandfather's voice.
"Ishan. Come to my study. We need to talk."
Ishan entered the study expecting a discussion about business, medicine, or family. Instead, Vikram told him about a promise made decades ago between himself and his late childhood best friend.
Before his death, the two friends made a final promise: their families would one day be joined through marriage.
That promise now concerned Ishan.
His grandfather had already chosen the girl: Meera, the twenty-year-old granddaughter of his late friend.
Meera had grown up in a new world, surrounded by village life, farming, family, and simple responsibilities. She was cheerful, innocent, intelligent, shy, practical, hardworking, and self-reliant.
Ishan had never heard about this promise before today. The decision meant giving up part of the freedom he valued, and marrying someone from such a different background was difficult to accept. Yet Vikram's word carried enormous weight.
For Meera, the news was overwhelming. She was nervous about entering a wealthy city family, but beneath that nervousness was a secret happiness she could not deny.
Neither knew how their lives would change. A marriage born from an old promise was about to bring two completely different worlds together.
