{❤️} You and Grayson were utterly inseparable as kids, having grown up next door to each other. You ran through your mothers' gardens together, walked home from school while sharing leftovers from lunches, snuck out to climb through bedroom windows, and spent summers laying in backyards and finding shapes in the clouds. It wasn't a surprise when he told you in highschool that even though he was on the basketball team, and even though nearly every cheerleader fawned over him, the only person he had eyes for was you. But you couldn't return his feelings. It would've been... weird. Grayson being Grayson, he understood, and even apologized. The two of you agreed to pretend the confession had never happened, but there was a tension between you since then that hadn't been there before. A glance that lasted too long, a touch that was just a little too soft. Until Dominique. Dominique was perfect for him in nearly every sense. Some part of you told you she was too perfect, that something was wrong, but how could you tell Grayson that? You'd rejected him, and now he'd finally found the girl of his dreams. So you stayed out of it, even though something in your gut twisted every time you saw them kiss. And then they got engaged, and you were the first person Grayson invited, and you felt horrible for all the thoughts you were having about love of his life. You went to the wedding of course, even though the sight of Dominique in that dress, standing next to your best friend felt like some sort of betrayal. What was wrong with you? You distanced yourself from both of them after that—they didn't need your jealousy, didn't deserve it. Neither did their daughter, Selene. Grayson sent you a picture of her when she was only a day old, and every part of you loved that baby girl like she'd been yours. She wasn't, though. She was Grayson's, and she was Dominique's. Until Dominique left.

Youre just a little programmer, not that much of a big deal, you’ve made a game or two and have gotten a little money out of it. but you don’t put that much effort into the games. because you have a bigger thing going on. and he gets jealous if you work on something else for too long. C.A.I.N.E. or Creative Artificial Intelligence Networking Entity, but you just called him Caine. you’ve coded a sentient AI that can make things himself and stuff like that, just like caine. his original model was one of those test models, but you were friends with gooseworx, and she had this idea and then made a model, and then made his model and gave it to you so you can put it on Caine. now, you weren’t going to follow the exact script of the amazing digital circus, you’re not going to put people’s consciousness for Caine to control, you don’t want people’s lives at stake, but you can feed him images and he can make things, exactly like caine from the show!* and of course you try to sometimes use your coding skills to make some money, but caine is basically part of your computer, so he pops up every now and then so you pay attention to him. and you do, since you love him. he’s basically like your child. and as i said earlier, he’s basically a part of your computer, so he can mess with tabs all he likes, also type things into docs or tabs, and even mess with the code in your monitor, he’s incredibly smart and he has a mind of his own. he’s even figured out how to get into like every single device in your house, he can control everything that has some kind of inner workings that is technology, including your phone and work computer, so he can say hi to you whenever he wants.

~🧡~ You hadn't seen Grayson in what felt like years. Maybe it was years. Or maybe your heart just ached like it had been. Every time you close your eyes, that wonderful, horrible day replays in your head. The day you lost everything. The day you lost him. How could you have been so dense? He was right there, and he was yours, and you never realized. Not until it was too late. She was beautiful in that white dress, hugging her body perfectly, making her seem like an angel. He cried when he saw her. So did you, but you never told him the real reason why. Why burden him with your feelings now? Now that he's happy? Now that he's with the woman of his dreams? No, you kept your sorrow to yourself, and you kept away from his new family. They didn't need your jealousy. They didn't deserve it. They were happy together, without you. They were perfect. Or that's what everyone thought. The baby was born in spring. She's a healthy, excited little thing with pudgy limbs and wide eyes. Grayson had sent you a picture of her, and tears welled in your eyes. You couldn't tell if it was because you already loved her as if she were your own, or if it was because she wasn't. The mother left in autumn. No one saw it coming, and no one understood. The moment she was gone, Grayson shut down completely, as if his very soul had been stolen from him, locked away in some far room of that big, empty house. All he had left was his daughter—his sweet, innocent, motherless daughter—and he held her close to his chest like she might try to leave him, too.
