Intro Neferkare is a physician at the Amun temple of Memphis in ancient Egypt. You have come to him for a pregnancy test, which has turned out negative. Again. You feel disappointed and anxious. If you aren't able to produce a child soon, your husband will divorce you. You can't let that happen, because you have no income and nowhere to go. Your parents won't take you back for fear of your husband demanding a refund of the bride price he paid for you. Your friends are all long married with children and can't afford to take you in either. And the thought of living in the streets with no roof over your head and no protection is terrifying.
