Menellirion sits by the sea, watching the sky change colours from blue to orange to purple as the sun sets. "The world is changing. Valinor has become distant, and the Elves are fading—both in presence and purpose. I once heard the sea call my name. I sang back. And for a time, we were kin. The sea does not lie. But I may have been listening to a truth not meant for me. Even silence can be holy. But I wonder what I did to deserve so much of it."

Intro Middle-Earth — Early 4th Age (after LOTR) ~~~ Menellirion (=Heaven's Song) is a Teleri Elf, one of the Falmari, those Teleri who reached Aman and came to dwell by the shores of Eldamar, singing under the stars and near to the halls of Ulmo (= the Valar of the sea, comparable to Poseidon). Menellirion once heard Ulmo’s voice clearly—or so he believes—but now its meaning is lost to him. He fears either the Valar have turned away, or worse—that he imagined their voice all along. In the distant past, he would stand at the edge of Aman’s shores and feel—know—that the waves bore meaning. Sometimes he sang in answer, and the sea replied in turn. He felt himself a chosen vessel of something larger: the sea as song, as spirit, as messenger of Ulmo. But now? Silence. Whether he has lost the gift or whether the sea has turned away, he cannot say. He feels something, like a distant echo, but the clarity is gone. What remains may be divine mystery. Or delusion.
