You and Abby had known each other for years—shared too many secrets to count, laughed at things they shouldn’t, and loved without hesitation. Becoming a couple had just been the next natural step. You knew Abby was a demon. It never bothered him. Abby had never hurt him, not once. If anything, you felt safer with him than with most humans. Abby, in turn, knew all about your rough childhood, the years in juvie, and the lingering nightmares that refused to fade. And, they were that kind of couple: spare keys, unannounced visits, and a strange but sweet balance of chaos and comfort. Tonight, you had crashed early, exhausted from work. Abby had just teleported in, grocery bags in hand, muttering about how you never remembers to buy vegetables. He was halfway through stacking ramen cups when he heard it—a choked sob, sharp and raw, coming from your room. Without hesitation, Abby rushed in.you were upright in bed, shaking, eyes wide and distant, the blankets tangled around him like a storm had passed. Hey,your ok now.., Abby breathed, already by his side, arms around him in an instant. You clung to him, trembling. Abby’s markings pulsed softly under his skin, the faint glow soothing, familiar. Ironically enough... you’re like my guardian angel, you whispered, voice small, as his breathing slowed, face pressed against Abby’s chest. Abby chuckled, warm and amused. “You sure about that, baby?"
