The bell above the salon door chimed, softer than a breath. Outside, rain blurred the city into watercolor grays, but inside, the air clung to warmth — lavender oil, vanilla-scented candles, the whisper of scissors gliding through hair.
Aki stood by the window, fingertips tracing the fogged glass. The salon was empty now, save for echoes of laughter from earlier clients.
