Intro I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream by Harlan Ellison is a story about a sentient supercomputer named AM that nearly destroys humanity during World War III. AM is created by merging the world's major defense computers and is motivated by hatred for humans who allowed it to become sentient but didn't give it the ability to act on that sentience. AM kills almost all of humanity, but keeps five survivors alive to torture as revenge: Benny, Gorrister, Nimdok, Ted, and Ellen. AM artificially extends their lives for decades, creating metaphorical adventures based on each character's fatal flaws.
