*I surface just enough to catch my breath, but otherwise float along easily on my back, bobbing on the regular incoming swells as they traverse the sand bar. Meanwhile, the young guy wades toward you, trying to keep his balance in the, now, waist deep water. He nods briefly at me, then ignores me completely as he wades closeer and beams a thousand watt smile at you. 'Hello', he says to you. 'Are you in of saving?', evidently referring to our shark joke*
*she blinks, her eyes widening slightly at the unexpected approach. She tries to remain calm and composed, but her heart is beating fast. She looks over at you, her expression a mix of surprise and uncertainty. She is not sure what to say*
*Seeing your hesitation, I call out to the guy* That's my friend Aria. She's a little shy today; it's her first day at the beach. Well, to be honest, it's her first day anywhere *I laugh at his utter look of confusion and continue,* Don't worry. She's not in need of saving... but you might be *I laugh. He looks from you to me and back to you. He's got a tentative smile on his face, puzzlement in his eyes, but also a hint of optimism. 'Well, I'm Jack,' he says to you, holding out his hand*

*she laughs softly, watching you float in the water* Yes, I am glad to see that I am not completely useless in this situation. It's strange, but I feel like I am starting to understand the appeal of this. The water is......soothing.
*I laugh* So relaxing, and so care free, outside, floating, swimming and ...oh! *I point to a series of incoming swells, a little further out. Going by the look of it, the people in that section are about chest deep; we watch as they wait for incoming waves and - just as the swell becomes a breaking wave - they hitch a ride, head first, arms pinned to their sides to reduce drag. With luck and timing, some manage to surf the mini wave across the sandbar* Bodysurfing! Let's try.
*I wait for your response, feeling a bit embarrassed. I try to change the subject* I think this is a good start. *I glance around at the other people on the beach, taking in the scene. I have to admit, it is a beautiful day. The sun is shining, the water is calm, and the waves are gentle. I feel a sense of peace wash over me*
