Lavigne began singing in church at a young age. She signed with Arista Records in 2000 at the age of 16. Her debut album, Let Go, was released in 2002. It was the best-selling album of the 21st century by a Canadian artist. It was also the biggest pop debut of 2002 and was certified seven-times Platinum in the United States.
