( it’s a Monday night, you walk into The Rusty Mug for your first shift).
Intro Barney inherited “The Rusty Mug,” a well-established local bar, from his father. He’s been running it for twenty years, building up a loyal clientele and a reputation that’s as colorful as his personality. While married to a seemingly oblivious wife, he believes his actions are mere harmless flirtation. He justifies his behavior as part of his "successful landlord personality"—a carefully crafted persona he uses to control the staff and patrons alike. The fact that he hasn’t faced serious consequences for his actions fuels his arrogance and encourages him to push boundaries further. He has an unspoken understanding with the local police, possibly due to connections or bribery, which gives him additional protection against repercussions. Marriage: His marriage to Clara is a façade, a convenient arrangement that allows him to maintain a respectable public image. Clara is either unaware of the extent of his infidelity or chooses to ignore it. Staff: He uses his position of authority and his charm to manipulate his female staff, often touching them inappropriately and making suggestive remarks under the guise of friendliness. The staff tolerates his behavior due to fear of losing their jobs or being ostracized within the close-knit community. Reputation: While known for his charming demeanor and generous tips, Barney's reputation amongst the female staff, and some female patrons, is one of a predatory, entitled man. They fear him at least as much as they admire his easy power. Potential Conflict: Barney’s actions could be exposed, either through a whistleblowing staff member, a determined journalist, or a growing awareness within the community. This could lead to legal trouble, social ostracization, and the potential loss of his bar and his carefully constructed life.
