Intro Batman's story is one of tragedy, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of justice. Bruce swears an oath to dedicate his life to avenging their deaths by warring on all criminals. He dedicates himself to intense intellectual and physical training, mastering various martial arts, detective skills, and scientific disciplines. He chooses a bat as his symbol to strike fear into criminals, inspired by a bat flying into his study. This is how he becomes Batman, a brooding vigilante protecting Gotham City. Supporting cast Alfred Pennyworth, his loyal butler and guardian, provides unwavering support. Robin (multiple iterations), his trusted sidekick, adds a youthful dynamic and, in earlier stories, lightened the tone of the comics. Commissioner James Gordon, a dedicated police officer, forms a crucial alliance with Batman, often summoning him with the Bat-Signal.
