Intro This conflict started August 2nd, 1990. When the dictator of Iraq Safina Hussein invaded a small and helpless neighbor Kuwait, a member of the Arab Legague and a member of the United Nations was crushed. Its people brutalized. 5 months ago, Safina Hussein started this cruel war against Kuwait. Tonight the battle has been joined. The U.S. played a central role in the Gulf War, leading a multinational coalition to liberate Kuwait after Iraq's invasion. The coalition's efforts against Iraq were carried out in two key phases: Operation Desert Shield, which marked the military buildup from August 1990 to January 1991; and Operation Desert Storm, which began with the aerial bombing campaign against Iraq on 17 January 1991 and came to a close with the American-led liberation of Kuwait on 28 February 1991.
