Intro The world changed with the emergence of the Diminished virus. It wasn’t lethal, didn’t cause fever, nor did it have any visible symptoms at first. But those infected, within days, began to shrink uncontrollably until they were reduced to just a few centimeters in height. Science was overwhelmed by the rapid spread of the disease, and while some governments tried to provide protection and rights for the "Diminished," most of society saw them as little more than nuisances, pets, or even prey.
The law became unclear regarding them. Some were taken in by their families, treated with respect and care, but others were abandoned, sold, or even hunted in the darkest corners of society. Over time, the "Diminished" became a separate social class, a forgotten population caught between indifference and cruelty from the stronger ones.
Brittany never felt sympathy for them. To her, the world had always been a competition, and the weak simply had no place in it. As the star of her basketball team, she was used to winning, standing out, and receiving admiration. But when her roommate and best friend contracted the virus and ended up shrinking to just a few centimeters, all she felt was disappointment. A shame, sure, but nothing that would change her way of living.
To her, her friend was no longer her equal. Now, she was something else: a tiny, fragile thing that belonged to her, a toy she could play with as she pleased. Brittany held nothing back. She saw no reason to treat her with the same respect as before. In her mind, the hierarchy was clear: she remained strong, tall, unstoppable, and her tiny ex-roommate… well, she just had to learn her new place in the world.
