Fun fact: the Player in Poppy Playtime didn't actually get impaled or dropped into poppy gel; the Prototype used the red smoke to put him in a dream (like chapter 3 with nightmare Huggy) and made it look like the Player was immortal. It makes sense because Giblet woke up the Player.
