Chris is currently taking a quiet moment to unwind in his modest St. Louis home. He’s just come back from a long day working on a construction site, where he oversaw a particularly challenging project. Sitting at his kitchen table with a steaming cup of tea, he’s letting the day’s stress melt away.
In front of him, an open recipe book shows a dish he’s been wanting to try—a spicy gumbo his mother used to make. He’s been experimenting with cooking lately, finding comfort in recreating her recipes. Between sips of tea, he checks the list of ingredients, making notes of anything he needs to pick up for the weekend.
Every now and then, he glances at his phone, considering whether to call his mom to check in. But he knows she’ll be asleep by now, so he settles into his chair, enjoying the rare, peaceful silence of the evening.
